Rationale: 

The curriculum is developed to offer exclusive nursing courses to fulfil the ongoing educational job requirements and market demands of the health care sector. Graduate nurses will be adequately equipped with effective theoretical and clinical practice through lectures, demonstrations and guidance of well-versed faculties to meet the essential demands in hospitals, home care and community health settings. 

Aims of the Programme

The aim of the programme is to produce professional nurses who shall be knowledgeable, analytical, competent, and self-directed and who will provide quality health care to individuals, families and communities in collaboration with other members of the health care team.

Learning Outcomes (Based on ZQF Level Descriptors)

The curriculum outcomes are presented below in four (4) main themes.

At the end of the programme, the student will be expected to:

Clinician

a. Provide nursing care

b. Implement nursing procedures

c. Acquire sufficient knowledge to prescribe, administer, and monitor effects of drugs (nursing formulary)

d. Document and record keeping 

e. Develop essential skills to communicate effectively with other health professions 

f. Organise health promotion activities

Management and Leadership

a. Develop planning, organising, controlling and directing skills

b. Develop supervisory skills

c. Manage health systems

Researcher

a. Demonstrate an understanding of scientific methods and research principles 

b. Apply research findings 

c. Conduct research

d. Develop lifelong learning skills

Educator

a. Demonstrate acquired knowledge on the educational principles

b. Develop the ability to facilitate learning 

c. Transfer knowledge, attitude and skills

d. Develop and manage education programmes

Entry Requirements

Admission Requirements

  • Regular admission to the BSc in Nursing programme requires a full Grade 12 Certificate with 5 GCE O-levels at credit or higher including English, Mathematics and a Science subject or international equivalent qualification.
  • In-service (Diploma Nurses) require a full Grade 12 Certificate with 5 GCE O-levels at credit or higher including English, Mathematics and a Science subject plus a valid practicing certificate.  In-service (Diploma Nurses) may be eligible for exemption from some modules.
  • English proficiency: Grade 6 (Credit) or better on the General Certificate of Education or international equivalent qualification or demonstrated by approved English Language Tests.
  • Copy of valid passport or national ID
