Course Description:
Rationale
This course introduces the student nurses to the alterations in cells and tissues in response to harmful stimuli. These acquired skills of general pathology including inflammation, ischemia, infarction and necrosis will be applied to specific organ systems.
The aim of the course is to equip students with a profound knowledge in Pathology, Immunology, Parasitology, Bacteriology and Virology and to enable them to manage common infections and diseases.
Learning Outcomes (Competences)
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Explain the basic elements of pathology.
(ii) Describe the cell and the reactions that occur to it.
(iii) Describe the role of the basic parts of the immune system.
(iv) Describe the basic elements of parasitology.
(v) Identify the classes of parasites and describe their effect on the human body.
(vi) Describe the basic elements of systemic pathology.
(vii) Describe bacteriology.
(viii) Describe virology.
(ix) Classify diseases of various body systems.
