Rationale


This course is essential for this programme as it will help the student nurse understand human life and how the body works in a complex way. It will help students understand the term disease so that they can learn to protect and maintain the health of their patients. Through the study of key biological concepts, this course offers a profound understanding of biological facts and the functional organisation of life on Earth, all of which are essential for all subsequent nursing courses.

The aim of this course is to provide student nurses with foundational knowledge of biological principles essential for understanding human life, health, and disease. 

 

Learning Outcomes (Competences)


At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i)     Discuss about the facts and function of Life on Earth.
(ii)    Describe DNA in terms of the Molecule of Heredity. 
(iii)   Describe the Systematics in relation to seeking order amidst diversity. 
(iv)   Interpret the laboratory results in biology.
(v)    Explain how ecosystems work.
(vi)   Explain how the muscles work and structure of various forms skeletons.
(vii)  Describe the animal Endocrine System.
(viii) Describe homeostasis of the animal body.
