Advanced Public Health NursingModule Details

Rationale

The course is a core component of the nursing programme as it will enable students to acquire knowledge and skills in communicable disease prevention/control and management of Public Health services.
The aim of the course is to enable students gain competence in Public Health Nursing practice as they care for individuals, families, special groups and communities in view of the constantly changing needs of society.  

Learning Outcomes (Competences)

At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i)      State the concepts of public health nursing. 
(ii)     Explain the public as a client. 
(iii)    Manage public health services.
(iv)    Describe primary health care (PHC).    
(v)     Describe school health services.
(vi)    Outline national public health programme. 
(vii)   Describe the external environment. 
(viii)  Manage health statistics and data management.     
(ix)    Demonstrate information education and communication (IEC) delivery.
(x)     Manage emergencies, disasters preparedness. 
(xi)    Outline partnerships for health and networking.
(xii)   Apply epidemiological principles to public health nursing.
(xiii)  State education and training of personnel involved in public health practice.
(xiv)  Outline occupational health and safety.
