Course Description:
Rationale
Given its direct impact on maternal, neonatal, and community health outcomes, reproductive health forms a critical pillar of nursing education and practice. This course enables students to examine key reproductive health issues and policies in both developed and developing countries. It emphasises on the social, economic, environmental, behavioural and political factors that affect reproductive health, fertility, pregnancy outcomes and family planning. A key component of the course is its focus on interventions and programmes which contribute to the improvement of reproductive health services and policies.
The aim of this course, is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive reproductive health care effectively addressing the health needs of individuals and communities.
Learning Outcomes (Competences)
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Outline the overview of integrated reproductive health.
(ii) Manage safe motherhood clients (obstetrics and obstetric nursing).
(iii) Manage gynaecology and gynaecological nursing.
(iv) Demonstrate knowledge on family planning methods.
(v) Describe gender and health.
