Course Description:
Rationale
This course is an essential component of the programme, equipping students with the research competencies required for evidence-based practice and the continuous improvement of patient care. It is designed to develop students’ understanding of basic research concepts and methods. Through this course, students will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to identify health problems, design and conduct – and/or participate in - need-based research studies across various settings and apply their research findings to enhance the quality of nursing care.
The aim of the course is to enable students to design, conduct, and evaluate research studies and to effectively communicate their findings in order to inform and improve nursing practice.
Learning Outcomes (Competences)
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Define research.
(ii) Outline the research process.
(iii) Describe the purpose of literature review.
(iv) State the ethical and legal issues arising in research.
(v) Explain the basic elements in quantitative research methodology.
(vi) Explain the qualitative research designs.
(vii) Write a research report.
