Rationale


This course plays a crucial role in the programme as it designed to introduce students to the applied theories and research of human development with relevance to nursing science. Students will be guided to understand the individual learning processes and psychological problems associated with the teaching and training of nursing students.

The aim of this course is to equip nursing students with an understanding of key psychological theories and principles related to human development and learning, enabling them to apply this knowledge effectively in their roles as learners and future educators in both educational and clinical settings.

 

Learning Outcomes (Competences)  


At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i)    Describe the relevance of education psychology to the learning process.
(ii)    Analyse theories of development as they relate to the process of learning.
(iii)   Discuss the development of language and thought. 
(iv)   Explain theories of learning.
(v)    Discuss memory and learning.
(vi)   Explain motivation and learning.
(vii)  Discuss the origins and development of intelligence and how it relates to the learning environment in nursing science.
(viii) Explain the relevance of measurement and evaluation in the learning process.
