Course Description:
Rationale
This course will serve as an introduction to the systems of the human body. Necessary life functions and survival needs will be examined, followed by an orientation of the language of anatomy. Thorough analyses of intracellular function, tissue types, the integumentary system, skeletal tissue and the human skeleton, joints, muscle tissue and the muscular system, the fundamentals of nervous tissue, the nervous system, and the endocrine system will follow. The course will enable student nurses to develop an understanding of the relationships between the structures and functions of the human body.
The aim of this course is to provide nursing students a foundational understanding of structure of body tissues, organs and systems in order to support its application in safe and effective nursing care.
Learning Outcomes (Competences)
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Describe the general principles of anatomy.
(ii) Outline the levels of structural organisation of the human body.
(iii) Describe the functions of Integumentary system.
(iv) Identify the regions of articulation.
(v) Describe the physiology and functions of the skeletal system and the muscular system.
(vi) Outline the Systemic Anatomy.
(vii) Describe the Gastro intestinal system, Urinary system, Cardiovascular system, Lymphatic system, Endocrine system, Respiratory system, Neuroanatomy and the Reproductive system.
