Rationale
The course is designed to develop students’ understanding of the modern child-care approach and build competence in the identification, prevention and nursing management of common paediatric health conditions in every clinical care setting.
The aim of this course is to equip students with knowledge, attitudes and skills crucial for the comprehensive management of both the well and sick child.
Learning Outcomes (Competences)
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Describe basic concepts of paediatrics and paediatric nursing.
(ii) Manage the well child.
(iii) Manage expanded programme of immunisation (EPI).
(iv) Outline deviations from normal growth and development.
(v) Manage a child with common medical conditions.
(vi) Manage a child with common surgical conditions.
(vii) dentify children with special needs.
