Course Description:

Rationale


Throughout this course, the students will learn how to construct business models, considering the ethical implications of the business context and maintaining ethically informed attitudes during the different stages of their work. It offers an insight into these ethical approaches, social roles and responsibilities that organisations need to adopt in order to protect their businesses. Students will be introduced to the principles of ethical thought, to models of ethical decision-making and to different business scenarios within such decisions are an integral part of the business’s smooth operation. In addition, the students will be focused on the significance of intellectual assets protection and gain knowledge on the tools for managing intellectual property in SMEs, multinational organizations and big institutions. Also, another important aspect that the course aims to examine is the challenge imposed for the execution of sustainable management and its practical implementation. 

Learning Outcomes


At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i)    Analyse concepts related to:  business ethics, sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Intellectual Property.
(ii)   Examine competing theories on business ethics.
(iii)  Explain the different strategies that businesses adopt for sustainable development of their everyday management practices.
(iv)  Adopt ethically-informed attitudes as future managers and understand in this way the role of business leaders in providing ethical leadership.
(v)   Evaluate the ethical dimensions of decisions in relation to markets, nations and the natural environment.
(vi)  Assess the role of innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship in the design of sustainable management solutions and practices.
(vii) Introduce ethical entrepreneurial theory and models for developing moral business frameworks.
(viii)Apply Intellectual Property, patents and copyrights.
