Course Description:

Rationale


This course lays the foundation on the basic ideas, concepts and emerging themes of entrepreneurship theory and practice. It draws on a wider range of perspectives and theoretical works that analyse the creation and growth of new and existing organisations, the concept of New Venture Creation, the services and practices of small and big business and entrepreneurial management. It also examines contemporary emerging issues in entrepreneurship including the role of mentorship, coaching and counseling as well as the main themes in planning and managing an entrepreneurial venture. 

Learning Outcomes


At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i)    Adopt an entrepreneurial mind-set.
(ii)   Explain the different concepts and ideas of entrepreneurial theory.
(iii)  Apply theories into practice for managing the different structures of organisations.
(iv)  Identify and evaluate entrepreneurial opportunities through design-thinking.
(v)   Define the concept and process of new venture creation and produce new venture plans for start-ups.
(vi)  Adapt their entrepreneurial skills and strategies based on the dynamics of various business types and transform their ideas into sustainable business ventures. 
(vii) Describe how mentorship, coaching, and counselling differ in the context of entrepreneurship.
(viii)Elaborate on the significance of various planning and managing aspects in the success of an entrepreneurial venture.
