Health Sciences Foundation Programme (HSFP)Programme Details
Required Credits/Units: 104
Rationale of the Programme
The Unicaf University Health Sciences Foundation Programme (HSFP) is a one-year, fulltime programme delivered over two semesters. It is designed for students who intend to pursue Unicaf University’s accredited MBChB and other health sciences degree programmes that may be developed in the future, and who do not meet the requirements for direct entry. The programme provides students with subject knowledge, analytical ability, and practical skills equivalent to A-Level standard, with a strong emphasis on preparedness for the MBChB and related health sciences degrees. It offers a structured blend of A-Level natural sciences and introductory content relevant to the health sciences professions. The programme bridges the gap between secondary school O-Level qualifications and undergraduate degree programmes in the health sciences.
Aims of the Programme
The HSFP aims to provide a robust foundation in the natural sciences, while equipping students with the digital literacy and academic communication skills essential for success in MBCHB and other health science degree programmes.
Learning Outcomes of the Programme
At the end of the programme, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, behaviours, and attitudes required for progression to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) and other undergraduate health sciences programmes.
2. Apply foundational concepts from the natural sciences to health sciences contexts, demonstrating an integrated understanding across disciplines.
3. Explain core theoretical principles underpinning health sciences and relate them to real-world healthcare applications.
4. Engage effectively in a range of teaching and learning approaches, including lectures, tutorials, problem-based learning, seminars, laboratory sessions, practicals, simulations, and assessments.
5. Develop digital literacy skills appropriate to academic study and professional practice in the health sciences.
6. Communicate academic and scientific information clearly and effectively using appropriate written, oral, and digital formats.
