Aims of the Programme
The aims of the programme are as follows:
1) To provide a range of academic skills and knowledge in the field of Sustainable Development.
2) To improve skills in critically assessing problems and solutions related to sustainable development.
3) To build interdisciplinary characters who will be able to comprehend sustainable development questions and concepts.
4) To improve skills in creating research questions, critically assessing relevant evidence and communicating their findings in order to investigate a sustainable development issue.
5) To provide education of high quality in sustainable development concepts, organizations, networks and policies.
6) To enhance skills for innovative environmental solutions development required in building a sustainable society.
7) To promote social entrepreneurship and start-up green businesses, based on the launch of innovative ventures and products.
8) To promote public policy and social entrepreneurship innovations that address society’s environmental and natural resource challenges.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the programme, the student will be expected to:
a) Develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of advanced-level sustainability debates and be able to analyse them.
b) Define and address socio-environmental vulnerabilities with success.
c) Explain and apply concepts of sustainable development and their usefulness to business ethics.
d) Acquire the necessary skills to engage critically with interpretations of sustainability.
e) Assess and evaluate technical, social, environmental, economic and political aspects of Sustainable Development.
f) Combine Sustainable Development into the day-to-day management and functioning of organizations, and on-going performance monitoring.
g) Evaluate critical reading and analysis of environmental policy and regulation.
h) Generate and adapt ecological principles and processes and be aware of the ways they are affected by human activities.
i) Compare and contrast judgements about Sustainable Development policies and their implementation.
j) Critically review relevant academic literature, generate a research study and link research to real world sustainable development phenomena.
k) Identifying research gaps in existing related areas and getting involved in sustainable development-related research activities.
l) Develop and strengthen research data handling skills.
Admission Requirements
The general admission requirements for entry to Unicaf University in Zambia Master degree programmes are as outlined below. Students are advised to contact the Office of Admissions to find out more about the range of equivalent international academic qualifications accepted.
- Admission to a Master’s degree programme requires an accredited Bachelor degree or international equivalent. Related professional qualifications at the appropriate level will also be considered for entry.
- Students with an accredited Master’s degree will also be considered for entry.
- Recognised proof of English proficiency if the Bachelor degree was not taught in the English language
- Copy of valid passport or national ID
In addition to a strong academic record, extra-curricular activities, leadership skills and other relevant background information are taken into account.
