Course Description:
Rationale
This course will introduce students to and prepare them for the content and structure of the dissertation project. Through the course appropriate research problems, questions etc., will be formulated and the students will elaborate on research methods, which are vital. Overall, the rationale behind this course is that it aims to give students the opportunity to develop their skills in analysing quantitative or qualitative data and presenting their findings.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Identify the type and the main characteristics of environmental research.
(ii) Conduct an academic review in order to investigate an issue.
(iii) Identify a suitable area and/or issue for research.
(iv) Identify the main differences between qualitative and quantitative research.
(v) Effectively pose a research question in accordance with the guidelines of Qualitative and Quantitative study.
(vi) Use qualitative/quantitative methods for data collection on research.
(vii) Interpret and present findings in relation to the research objectives.
(viii) Identify the ethical issues of a research.
(ix) Prepare report in proposing and initial research proposal.
