Course Description:

Rationale
The thesis project will normally be in on a subject area that emphasizes the software infrastructure associated with computer systems. Students will be provided with a set of subject areas and project ideas that they can choose and further develop.

Subject areas can include, but are not limited to:
• Development of existing systems
• New algorithmic developments
• Project correctness, complexity
• Software and application development
• Software implementation on limited resource devices
• Multi-processor systems
• Reliability issues
• Integration of new hardware via software development
• Applied Artificial Intelligence techniques
• Distributed computing paradigms
• Mobile computing system integration
• Wireless networking protocols
• Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and mobile devices
• Enterprise system development
• Web application development

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:

(i) Carry out independent research.
(ii) Critically evaluate current and state-of-the-art developments in the subject area
(iii) Contribute to the creation of new knowledge.
(iv) Solve complex problems based on their acquired skills.
(v) Write professional documents and scientific papers.
(vi) Present written and verbal coherent arguments to support the thesis project.
