Organizational Culture ManagementModule Details

Rationale

This course is essential to the programme as it encourages students to explore the role of culture in organisational life in order to understand the complex concept of organisational culture in both theoretical and practical terms. Students will be equipped with the skills required for effectively managing organisational culture and, especially culture change so as to be in a position to comprehend its dynamic nature in organisations. Furthermore, students will be able to recommend theoretical models for understanding and managing organisational culture change and provide an inter-disciplinary approach towards the concept of organisational culture management. Finally, students will delve into the role of leadership in organisational culture change.

This course aims at enhancing students’ theoretical knowledge associated with the different approaches to organisational culture, such as sociological, anthropological and psychological approaches.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i)    Evaluate the different theoretical contextual approaches to organisational culture, i.e. sociological, anthropological and psychological approaches.
(ii)   Evaluate the role of culture in organisational life and, especially, in the way in which organisational culture influences vital organisational variables.
(iii)  Outline the different processes involved in cultural dynamics and organisational culture change.
(iv)  Assess the practical value of the recommended integrative dynamic framework for managing organisational culture change and organisational effectiveness.
(v)  Analyse the role of leadership in organisational culture management in the context of the recommended integrative dynamic framework for organisational culture change.
