Rationale
This course is integral to the programme as it demonstrates fundamental psychological models and modes, essential for workplace communication. Students will explore decision making processes and the application of positive psychology in professional settings. They will acquire knowledge about conducting communication audits in workplaces as well as the related ethical considerations. Furthermore, students will develop skills in designing, executing and producing Communication Audit reports, thereby enhancing their ability to contribute meaningfully to organisational communication strategies.
The aim of this course is to enable students develop a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing the effectiveness of communication in the workplace. It also aims to familiarise students with both intrapersonal and interpersonal strategies for effective communication in professional settings.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Determine the main psychological models and modes of workplace communication.
(ii) Evaluate the components affecting the communication process in the workplace.
(iii) Evaluate the potential effects of positive psychology and decision making in the workplace communication.
(iv) Assess the ethical components in the workplace and the communication process.
(v) Illustrate advanced level, reasoned, critical and evidence-based arguments in written form.
