Rationale
In today's fast-changing business world, leadership skills are essential for success. The content of this course is closely related to psychological theories and leadership, such as personality, cognition and social models of leadership. The course is a vital part of this programme as it helps students understand how leadership works in organisations. It explores a historical overview of research and theories of leadership and also discusses the terms of leadership and management and leadership and culture. Finally, the course explores the strategies for the development of leadership and the content of teams and leadership. By studying these topics, students will be better prepared to help their organisations grow and innovate.
This course aims to provide students with a thorough understanding of leadership in organisational settings and prepare them to lead and innovate within their organisations and the ever-changing business landscape.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Demonstrate a practical understanding of the major key psychological theories underpinning leadership behaviour.
(ii) Evaluate psychological strategies and interventions of leadership development.
(iii) Analyse needs, formulate solutions and evaluate methodologies within the context of organisational leadership.
(iv) Evaluate the role of psychometric tests in predicting leadership behaviours.
(v) Articulate their role within a team and relate it to leadership theory and management.
