Rationale


This course is essential to the programme as it is designed to help students undertake a dissertation project related to Education. It is developed to provide students with a guide to the research process and with the necessary knowledge and skills to produce a piece of research from first thoughts about a research topic to writing a project report. 

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the intellectual and scholarly requirements of producing an extended piece of written postgraduate research.


Learning Outcomes


At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i)    Describe the principles involved in planning and executing a dissertation project.
(ii)   Conceptualise a research problem and assess it in the context of current knowledge on the subject.
(iii)  Outline the principles for the collection and analysis of data and other information.
(iv)  Analyse the findings in relation to specified aims, objectives and criteria for assessment.
(v)   Write a research report and review the results of research carried out.
