Rationale
This course is essential to the programme as it lays the foundation for the basic concepts and emerging themes of entrepreneurship theory and practice. Proficiency in contemporary entrepreneurial issues will empower students to accelerate the growth of organisations they engage in, employing methodologies such as new venture creation, mentorship, coaching, counselling or entrepreneurship venture management.
The course aims to familiarise students with a wide range of perspectives and theories that analyse the creation and growth of new and established organisations, alongside the services and practices of businesses as well as entrepreneurial management.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, students will be expected to:
(i) Explain the different concepts and ideas of entrepreneurial theory and apply those theories into practice for managing the different structures of organisations.
(ii) Evaluate entrepreneurial opportunities through design thinking.
(iii) Outline the concept and process of new venture creation
(iv) Produce new venture plans for start-ups.
(v) Explain how mentorship, coaching, and counselling differ in the context of entrepreneurship.
(vi) Elaborate on the significance of various planning and managing aspects in the success of an entrepreneurial venture.
