Course Description:
Background and Rationale
The leadership course encompasses a range of information related to leading, guiding, and influencing individuals or a group of people towards the achievement of a common goal. This course includes a summary of theoretical frameworks’ assessment of how leaders evolved during the years around business organisations, societal influences, and strategic decision-makings. Specifically, the course will introduce students to different theories and models surrounding the philosophy of Leadership. It will examine the qualities that shape leaders’ approach in organisations and the possible effects of leadership styles on the behaviour of others. Students will be guided to research and critique leadership qualities of different CEOs and to explore dimensions around leadership including trustworthiness and ethical stewardship. Emphasis will be placed on the role of Information and technology in the modern leadership and the role of transformational leadership towards effective adoption of organisational change.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
1) Apply theoretical conceptualisation of leadership models to organisations.
2) Describe different practices for leading, guiding, and influencing individuals or a group of people for a common goal.
3) Explain how Information and Technology can support leadership’ practices.
4) Demonstrate leadership qualities and skills in building and working in diverse teams.
5) Develop effective leadership strategies for appropriate decision making followed by the critical literature assessment of motivation in organisations.
6) Illustrate the evolution of Leadership in the 21st century.
7) Explain the theoretical application of Transactional and Transformational Leadership.
