Rationale
This course is vital to the programme as it enables students to understand the business functions and processes that need to be integrated across the whole organisation within a competitive environment. Additionally, the course supports the development of a critically analytical approach to the appreciation of problems involved in implementing strategic decisions and the difficulties of monitoring and controlling those decisions.
The course aims to introduce students to the key concepts of different business functions and processes, including a knowledge and understanding of markets, customers, finance, people and operations.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Outline the business functions that need to be managed and integrated within a competitive environment to deliver value to an organisation and its stakeholders.
(ii) Compare discussed business markets, models and sectional diversity.
(iii) Prepare a business plan based on a market’s needs and demands.
(iv) Implement the key steps of a business start-up in a particular market, considering a market’s competitive levels.
