Rationale
Developing Educational Policy is important because it keeps all institutions within the framework of the law and forces them to abide by it. Setting a policy is a good way to clarify expectations and help ensure consistency across an educational institution. Change management involves identifying the changes, communicating them, and getting in front of any possible resistance. Through this course students are introduced to concepts and processes involved in policy development, and the planning and implementation of educational change.
The aim of this course is to deepen knowledge about the concepts and processes involved in policy formulation, development, planning and implementation of educational reforms.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Discuss the concepts of educational policy.
(ii) Identify the factors influencing policy decisions.
(iii) Recognise policy issues in an educational context.
(iv) Develop theory and practice on the effective management of change in education.
(v) Explain the role of educational leadership in facilitating and enhancing the change process.
