Background and Rationale
The main objectives of the course are to:
• To explore children’s literature as a distinct genre
• To examine the ways in which children’s literature feeds into the body of literature in English
Learning Outcomes
After completion of the course students are expected to be able to:
• Understand the traditions of, and innovations in, Children’s Literature in English from the early nineteenth century to the present
• Recognize and assess Children’s Literature as a genre in its own right
• Situate Children’s Literature within a literary, cultural and historical context
• Understand the place of Children’s Literature in the literary marketplace
• Formulate interpretations of Children’s Literature in coherent essays, assignments and research projects
