Course Description:
Rationale
The practice of clinical medicine is important for the newly trained medical doctor for them to understand how in a real life setting the application of lessons and skills learnt are applied within the context of a team of medical staff from various professions.
The Elective Clinical Attachment aims to provide students an opportunity to experience health care service delivery in facilities apart from those in which training has been conducted.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Describe the clinical work and responsibilities of the host facility or department.
(ii) Take a patient history, including presenting complaints, from the patient or their relative.
(iii) Perform a physical examination to investigate the presenting complaint.
(iv) Develop a differential diagnosis based on the presenting complaint.
(v) Identify appropriate investigations to confirm the preliminary diagnosis.
(vi) Prepare a treatment management plan for the patient and present it to the responsible clinician.
(vii) Observe, assist, and carry out relevant treatments and procedures where appropriate.
