Rationale
The course of the Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer, Infections, and Diseases of Body Systems builds on Internal Medicine - Diagnosis and Treatment of Systemic Diseases which will further introduce the student to the field of Internal Medicine.
This course aims to introduce the fundamental principles of internal medicine, essential clinical skills for obtaining patient history and identifying physical signs, and the professional attitudes necessary for clinical practice. Additionally, it provides foundational training in bedside procedures and investigations relevant to internal medicine.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Describe what is involved in Internal medicine.
(ii) Take a history from the patient or relative of the presenting complaints.
(iii) Perform a physical examination as part of investigating the presenting complaint.
(iv) Make a differential diagnosis for the presenting complaint.
(v) Identify investigations to confirm the preliminary diagnosis.
(vi) Prepare a treatment management plan for the patient to present to the responsible clinician.
(vii) Observe, carry out and assist with relevant medical procedures where appropriate.
