Clinical PathophysiologyModule Details
Module/Course Description
Course Title: Clinical Pathophysiology
Course Code: UU-MED-5510-ZM
Programme: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB)
Credits: 24.00
Course Description:
Rationale
Pathophysiological processes are important to understand in the aetiology of disease. It forms the basis for the understanding disease processes. Clinical pathophysiology is important if one is to understand the underlying mechanisms for disease causation. Having understood these, it is easier to then decide on a course of action to treat those conditions.
The clinical pathology component aims to provide the students with an understanding of the biochemical changes and their effects in disease processes.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Define terminologies used to describe disease mechanisms and processes.
(ii) Identify tissue changes in varying pathologies based on histology and gross organ appearance.
(iii) Explain the aetiology, pathogenesis, and pathophysiology of systemic diseases.
(iv) Analyse biochemical changes and their effects on disease processes.
(v) Perform valid techniques to evaluate and interpret results in chemical pathology critically.
