Course Description:
Rationale
Diseases are within the control of health providers because of an understanding of the way diseases spreads. The interactions between humans and their environment are sometimes a factor of spread of disease and hence these factors need to be understood in initiating prevention strategies and the promotion of good health.
Disease prevention and control aims to familiarise students with public health principles so they can understand the measures required to prevent disease spread and promote good health in communities.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Interpret the principles of behaviour change and public health to provide targeted public health interventions.
(ii) Describe strategies that promote community behaviour change for improved living conditions, sanitation, clean water, food safety, and occupational health.
(iii) Apply principles and processes of behaviour change to design and deliver targeted public health interventions.
(iv) Analyse the processes, uses, and evaluation of public health surveillance systems.
(v) Outline the steps involved in an outbreak investigation.
