Module/Course Description
Course Title: Histology II - Body Cells, Tissues and Organ Systems
Course Code: UU-MED-2270-ZM
Programme: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB)
Credits: 14.00
Course Description:
Rationale
The normal cellular structure of human body cell is important to understand, and how these functions in organ systems and the necessary medical and surgical interventions to apply when this is not functioning normally.
This course aims to provide students with exposure and knowledge of the body cells, tissues, and organ systems as revealed by the light and electron microscopes to provide an understanding of the microscopic organisation of all the organ systems of the human body. Histology is essential in understanding the normal function of body cells, tissues, and organ systems and their derangement in disease.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Describe the normal development of all the major human organ systems and correlate this with their gross and microscopic structure.
(ii) Analyse the occurrence of the major developmental anomalies and malformations.
(iii) Describe the process of gametogenesis in males and females.
(iv) Outline the developmental changes from fertilization to birth.
