Rationale


Safety management is a system that works through the operation of the organisation and it is therefore essential that students gain a comprehensive understanding of the most important parts that are needed in order to develop such a system effectively. The importance of safety culture in the organisation which is crucial to the development of a safety system that will promote the company safety strategy as well as function across the various departments will be studied. Students will also be introduced to the importance of a system that continuously improves through the use of quality management techniques.

Learning Outcomes


At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i)    Deliver effective safety management systems.
(ii)   Evaluate the impact of accountability on performance management of safety management systems.
(iii)  Assign clear safety-related job tasks to ensure employee involvement.
(iv)  Explain the different parts of a hazard prevention and control system.
(v)   Analyse risk assessment principles to prevent workplace hazards.
(vi)  Identify the relationship of safety management systems to continuous improvement principles.
