Course Description:
Rationale
Through this course, students will examine the risk management principles and will acquire the knowledge and skills required in order to apply an effective health and safety management system. They will focus on both the theoretical and practical aspect of risk assessment which will help them to develop risk management plans that will reduce workplace hazards. Students will also use various tools like literature reviews, case studies and health and safety legislation in order to understand the concept of risk and risk classification in relation to the business policies and processes.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Identify the health and safety risks of the operation and the ways these can be managed.
(ii) Describe the relation of risk management concepts with safety management and accident prevention.
(iii) Assess the tools that identify workplace risks and help create effective risk management systems and techniques.
(iv) Develop job safety analysis by using safety legislation requirements.
(v) Mitigate risk and reduce fatality with proper assessment and application of risk controls.
(vi) Communicate risk assessment results efficiently so that corrective actions can be applied for immediate risk prevention.
(vii) Advise on risk management decisions.
