Course Description:
Rationale
Quantitative Methods will introduce students to the basic principles of management science and operational research and will familiarise them with its concepts and tools. Research is vital, thus, this course helps build the students’ analytical and decision making/policy skills, as well as their ability to summarise and present and communicating data in a professional and effective way.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Discuss the importance of quantitative methods in problem solving and decision making.
(ii) Structure business problems so that these can be solved by quantitative means.
(iii) Select appropriate quantitative methods to address particular types of business problems.
(iv) Apply appropriate quantitative methods to solve particular types of business problems.
(v) Develop quantitative models to help propose policy alternatives.
(vi) Develop skills in analytical and practical decision making.
(vii) Develop a conceptual understanding of the methods of science in decision making.
(viii) Summarise and present data in a professional way.
(ix) Communicate effectively with non-technical managers.
