Course Description:
Rationale
This course helps students understand what it means to be a true leader in the current job market and how you can achieve success by leading, influencing and empowering people. It explores different models and approaches to leadership and success and also provides the ways on how to apply them within different types of organisations. In addition, the course, outlines the theoretical foundations of the Leadership concept and presents behavioural models and personality traits that the students may also adopt into their own careers. Moreover, throughout the course, the students will be given the chance to shape and develop their leader identities both personally and professionally, hold key future roles and master tools, techniques and competencies in terms of empowering people, creating vision and reaching goals.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Define leadership as a concept in terms of a general context.
(ii) Examine the available philosophy, skills and behaviors related to the concept of Leadership.
(iii) Describe the practice of leadership in organisations.
(iv) List the main traits of a good leader.
(v) Apply tools and methods for leading others and themselves in real life situations.
(vi) Distinguish between the concepts of Leader and Manager.
(vii) Evaluate the systemic nature of leadership and identify key leader roles.
(viii) Design a personal development plan, setting success goals.
