Rationale


The course invites students to delve into the theoretical views and literature of HR Strategy and Practice in order to familiarise themselves with the meaning of HRM, the way it is shaped, its structural characteristics, strategy creation and performance, as well as the main principles of HRM planning and organisation. In addition, the course exposes students to the impact that HRM has on both business and the society in general, by providing an understanding of its aims and practices, as well as the value it creates for the organisation and its workforce. 

Learning Outcomes


At the end of the course students will be expected to:

(i)    Discuss the different theoretical approaches related to HR Strategy and Practice within past and current literature.
(ii)   Recognise the relation between contextual forces and HR strategy.
(iii)  Design an HR Strategy and plan considering the objectives of both the organisation and the department.
(iv)  Review academic work and organisational practice in specific HRM areas, considering policies and employees’ rights.
(v)   Identify the most appropriate organisation practices for an organisation.
