Rationale


As sustainability has gained more and more attention the last few years, it has become an integral matter of consideration in every business and organisational model. This course invites students to recognise and understand sustainability as an ethical and responsible business practice and how the government, industry, society and the particular organisation can respond to this challenge. The students will become familiar with sustainability both as a concept and a competitive advantage that today’s business need to gain and maintain through their environmentally responsible performance.

Learning Outcomes


At the end of the course students will be expected to:    
(i)    Define “Sustainability” in terms of organisational structure and practice / business management.
(ii)   Appreciate the implementation of sustainable business models and strategies within HRM.
(iii)  Discuss the role of HR in sustaining environmentally responsible business for its people.
(iv)  Describe the relationship between government, industry, society, consumers and the wider political/economic/social trends with sustainable business.
(v)   Analyse the principles of corporate governance in a business.
(vi)  Apply intra-organisational management tools and techniques to embed sustainability into the operations of the organisation.
(vii) Implement inter-organisational management tools and techniques to embed sustainability beyond the boundaries of the organisation through the product value chain.
