Rationale
Planning is considered the pillar of any project activity, as it sets the stage for the rest of the procedural levels of project management, ensuring smooth flow of the operations and positive results. All projects, regardless of type or size, need to be keenly scheduled and adequately resourced in order to deliver the required result while adhering to time and quality constraints. This course addresses the key steps necessary to schedule a project management life-cycle model, define the work breakdown structure and assess the planning practice. Hence, the students will discover the critical elements and principles that constitute an efficient project planning and simultaneously, gain further insight of the planning models of modern organisations.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Discuss the critical elements and methods to lead, execute and document projects.
(ii) Assess planning practices and apply them appropriately in future projects.
(iii) Define the work breakdown structure and the key considerations for this process.
(iv) Demonstrate an understanding of the various concepts and principles for project scheduling and planning.
(v) Discuss project plan development and the different forces that impact today’s modern organisations.
(vi) Discuss how schedule difficulties affect project planning.
(vii) Formulate their own project idea, define its scope and explain how to appropriately manage resources.
(viii) Compare different project management life cycle models and assess how they enhance project planning.
