Course Description:

Rationale


This course aims to facilitate the collection and analysis of data for the purpose of resolving issues directly related to human resource management. Students will be guided to develop intrapersonal, interpersonal and problem- solving skills. They will learn to communicate, both orally and in writing while having confidence when interacting with others in a number of organisational settings. The course will enable students to effectively use the resources in order to ‘learn how to learn’.


Learning Outcomes


At the end of the course students will be expected to:


(i)    Develop strategic recruitment/selection policies and practices.
(ii)   Perform an effective job analysis.
(iii)  Prepare a job description.
(iv)  Prepare a job specification.
(v)   Develop effective job design processes and procedures.
(vi)  Prepare and perform effective selection interviews.
(vii) Perform a training needs analysis.
(viii) Develop and implement effective training programmes.
(ix)  Evaluate jobs in order to determine salary/wage scales.
(x)   Develop and implement effective disciplinary processes and procedures.
(xi)  Utilize employee associations for better business results.
(xii) Manage employer/employee negotiations so as to avoid conflict situations in the workplace.
(xiii) Analyse health and safety issues in the workplace for better employee performance.
(xiv)Evaluate the legal environment and its impact on the workplace.
