Course Description:

Rationale
The curriculum acts as a well secured boundary of the learning process that stipulates the goals and the desired skills of the countries human resource. The curriculum for any country’s education system is crucial to the direction of a country’s human resource and economic development. A local focus contextualised curriculum speaks to the direction of the country’s’ growth. When studying to be an effective teacher, one must study the science of pedagogy and instructional design. The aim of this course is to equip potential teachers with the tools needed to design and organise a curriculum that will help students meet the aims and objectives of a subject.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:


i.    Explain what a curriculum is and the different dimensions of a curriculum.
ii.   Describe the foundations of curriculum.
iii.  Design a curriculum.
iv.  Discuss what curriculum development and implementation is.
v.   Explain curriculum evaluation, change and innovation.
vi.  Analyse and apply lesson planning methods and skills by practicing planning.
vii.  Design multidisciplinary integrated curriculum units.
