Course Description:

Rationale
The aim of this course is to encourage and enable students to develop inquiring minds and curiosity about consumer science and family. Acquiring knowledge, conceptual understanding developing skills to solve problems and make informed decisions in scientific and other contexts of essence will be encouraged throughout the course. The methods used and their practicality to the learner remains of importance. The potential teacher will be guided to use and implement a variety of strategies, methodologies, ideas and theories in the teaching process in order to make science an interesting subject since the acquisition of knowledge in this area will improve the learners’ quality life. 

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:

i.   Develop SMART objectives.
ii.  Design modern teaching approaches and activities while incorporating basic skills and pedagogical theories in Family and Consumer Science. 
iii. Examine and collect data regarding the knowledge and attitudes of primary school pupils about Family and Consumer Science.
iv. Apply different strategies and methods in lesson planning.
v.  Engage in research processes related to students' perceptions on the field of science.
vi. Engage in research processes.
