Course Description:
Rationale
The course expands on the theoretical implications of research methods, the role and significance in strategic and operational managerial practice, and in addressing real-world business problem-solving needs. The course provides a comprehensive understanding of the various research methods and delves deeper into primary data collection (qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods research techniques) and secondary data collection. By examining the theoretical underpinnings of these methods, students gain insights into how research can be used to inform strategic decision-making.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Evaluate and analyze existing literature in the business and management research field.
(ii) Formulate research hypothesis and research questions.
(iii) Select the most appropriate research method based on the research question and hypothesis.
(iv) Explain and differentiate between quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods approaches to research.
(v) Differentiate between various empirical research methods, understand their implications, and describe the use of empirical instruments.
(vi) Elaborate on the use of empirical instruments such as questionnaires.
(vii) Apply empirical tools for conducting research surveys.
(viii)Apply basic statistical knowledge to carry out statistical analysis and interpret research data.
(ix) Compose a comprehensive research report and present research findings in a clear and effective manner.
