Course Description:

The course aims to introduce students to the world principles and concepts of retailing, present the ways of choosing retail location and retail price, explain how retailers manage stores and store staff and familiarize students with the various buying and merchandising systems. Moreover, it will acquaint students with the various concepts behind customer buying behaviour and enable them to understand the various issues of customer service.   

At the end of the course students will be expected to:

1) Define retail and distribution management.

2) Identify the basic principles of retail and distribution management.

3) Choose among the various retail location options available for a retail establishment.

4) Apply the relevant retail strategy theory to assess retail location options and make solid choices.

5) Explain the ways retailers can set prices for their offerings.

6) Apply the relevant retail strategy theory to determine pricing strategies to follow in any retail establishment.

7) Manage a retail store and its staff.

8) Carry out all management duties of any retail establishment.

9) Make purchasing decisions.

10) Make correct purchasing decisions by applying best practices theory of retailing.

11) Use theory of customer buying behavior to understand customers and, as retailers, better cater for their needs.

12) Evaluate the theory behind retail and distribution so as to become a customer driven establishment.
