Rationale
Effective school leaders use resources creatively to improve teaching and learning. Strong organisational managers are effective in allocating budgets and resources. Schools showing academic improvement are more likely to have strong organisational managers. Through the course students will be introduced to concepts and theories pertinent to the study of school organisational management.
This course aims to provide an overview of key ideas and issues connected with management practice in educational organisations in a varied context. The course offers an introduction to the advanced study of educational management.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Recognise the nature and the characteristics of organisational and school change.
(ii) Describe the factors that force school to promote changes.
(iii) Identify the main dimensions of change at the individual level and at the school level.
(iv) Explain the concept, the role and the main characteristics of school improvement.
(v) Compare the school improvement approach with the school effectiveness approach.
(vi) Assess the applicability of the school improvement approach through the examination of school improvement programmes.
(vii) Develop various plans for school improvement based on different theoretical models
