Background and Rationale

 

  • The main objectives of the module are to:
  • Give students a thorough knowledge of the law relating to criminal procedure.
  • Expose students to the structure of the courts having criminal jurisdiction.
  • Provide in depth knowledge to the students about the pretrial process, the charge sheet, trial procedure, sentences and their execution, and the appeal process.

Learning Outcomes


After completion of the module students are expected to:
1. Describe criminal procedure.
2. Formulate criminal charges.
3. Draft the charge sheet.
4. Analyze the roles of defense and prosecution lawyers.
5. Represent the state in a criminal trial.
6. Represent an accused in a criminal trial.
7. Draft criminal judgment.
