Rationale
This course is essential within the curriculum as it provides students with a comprehensive understanding of advanced financial accounting concepts and principles. Through the use of disclosed financial information, students will gain proficiency in analysing, preparing and interpreting financial statements. By delving into the accounting theories, regulatory framework and disclosure requirements, students develop the skills necessary to assess the financial health and performance of organisations effectively as well as accurately communicate their financial position to stakeholders.
Financial Reporting aims to provide the relevant knowledge and skills to students for preparing and analysing financial statements.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Evaluate the regulatory framework of financial reporting.
(ii) Underline the requirements in preparation of published financial statements.
(iii) Prepare financial statements for different entities that comply with the relevant
accounting standards, companies’ legislation and other related regulations.
(iv) Prepare group financial statements that may include an associated company or joint venture.
(v) Analyse concepts of reporting entity, off-balance sheet activities, leasing, and disclosure.
(vi) Analyse published financial statements.
(vii) Identify the interrelations between various components of financial statements.
(viii) Report financial statements and related information to a range of stakeholders.
