Rationale
This course is essential to the programme as it explores research methods in the context of managerial practice, addressing real-world business challenges. Through a comprehensive study of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods approaches, students develop skills for primary and secondary data collection. By examining theoretical underpinnings, students gain insights into how research informs strategic decision-making.
The aim of this course is to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to conduct rigorous research in the field of business and to apply research findings to inform strategic decision-making in real-world business contexts.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Analyse existing literature in the business and management research field.
(ii) Formulate research hypothesis and research questions.
(iii) Select the most appropriate research method based on the research question and hypothesis, differentiating between quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods approaches.
(iv) Differentiate between various empirical research methods, by understanding their implications.
(v) Describe the use of empirical instruments, such as questionnaires, for conducting research surveys.
(vi) Apply basic statistical knowledge to carry out statistical analysis, interpret research data.
(vii) Compose a comprehensive research report, presenting research findings in a clear and effective manner.
