Rationale


The General Psychology I course offers essential insights into human behaviour and mental processes, fostering critical thinking and self-awareness through topics like perception, cognition, and social behaviour. Students gain foundational skills for future research and real-world challenges through theoretical instruction and practical applications. Through the application of psychological concepts in a variety of contexts, this course helps students become more adept at navigating everyday life.

The aim of this course is to provide students with a foundational understanding of human mental processes and behaviour theories, including critical examination of perception, thought, and social behaviour, ultimately leading to improved self-awareness and understanding of others.

 

Learning Outcomes


At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i)    Explore major fields and theoretical perspectives in psychology.
(ii)   Apply introductory knowledge of research methods in psychology and ethical guidelines.
(iii)  Outline the role of the nervous system in influencing emotions, behaviours, and mental processes.
(iv)  Evaluate developmental concepts related to physical and mental changes across the lifespan.
(v)   Acquire knowledge of sensation, perception, sensory pathways, and visual processes.
