Rationale
The Computer Systems course covers fundamental ideas, information system components, and organisational applications in order to give students a thorough understanding of the evolution of computer hardware and software. Additionally, students will gain hands-on experience navigating computer fundamentals, such as data communications, internet resources, information systems security, and digital ethics.
This course aims to comprehensively cover the evolution of computer hardware and software from historical to modern advancements. It equips students with practical skills for navigating computer fundamentals and fosters ethical awareness in digital contexts.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Analyse the significance of information systems and technology in the contemporary digital landscape.
(ii) Trace the evolution of information technology from its inception to current trends and future projections.
(iii) Discuss how information systems raise ethical concerns in society and how they influence crime.
(iv) Analyse the components of information systems, including hardware features such as processing units, input/output devices, and storage units, and analyse their characteristics.
(v) Provide recommendations for configuring computer systems tailored to specific organisational or personal requirements.
(vi) Utilise various number systems for data representation and demonstrate comprehension of their application in computing contexts.
