Rationale
Financial Management course is significant in the programme, as it provides students with the knowledge, skills, and analytical capabilities necessary to excel in managing financial resources, communicating financial information and making informed decisions in commercial settings. Through the course, students will gain insights into analysing financial statements, making valuation decisions and managing financial and investment risks.
This course aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge in applying financial management concepts and tools for day-to-day decision-making and investment decisions.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Analyse the role and purpose of financial management.
(ii) Identify the activities required to be performed in order to ensure the efficiency of the working capital.
(iii) Evaluate appropriate sources of finance for particular situations.
(iv) Appraise capital investment through the use of appropriate methods and assess investment risk to make related decisions.
(v) Prepare budgets and use them to control and evaluate organisational performance.
(vi) Utilise time-value-of-money techniques for valuing financial and business assets.
(vii) Analyse the risk-return relationship.
(viii) Outline the various types of financial assets used in international financial markets.
(ix) Communicate important financial information including the results of financial analysis to various interested parties (stakeholders).
