Rationale
The Research and Writing course, is essential to the programme as it equips students with important writing and communication skills necessary for their professional careers. By focusing on methods of primary research data collection, the structure of research papers, and documentation styles, students will develop the proficiency needed to communicate effectively in the workplace. Through discussions and practical exercises, students will gain confidence in their ability to produce professional written materials.
The aim of this course is to equip students with the essential writing and communication skills to reflect their professionalism and competence in the workplace.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Create resumes, job application letters, memos, and various types of technical writing, in the appropriate format and based on the required.
(ii) Write in a clear, concise, ethical, and non-discriminatory form for effective communication and for problem resolution.
(iii) Distinguish various writing, organisational, and editing techniques while analysing written materials composed by others.
(iv) Identify the processes of conducting primary research and writing primary research papers, including quantitative and qualitative data collection methods, paper structure, citation styles, and ethical considerations.
(v) Illustrate increased self-awareness and confidence in writing through collaborative interaction with peers and independent study.
