Rationale
Students must grasp the multifaceted perspectives and diverse interests that public policy makers and managers navigate. Exposure to evolving governance concepts will enable students to discuss public sector reform, 'joined up' government, policy networks, democracy, participation, and knowledge management. The course facilitates the understanding and critical examination of these themes in a changing policy landscape.
This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of governance structures and their impact on policy formulation and implementation. Students will analyse the complexities of governance processes, fostering the ability to critically assess policy power and promote informed decision-making across varied governance frameworks.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Analyse diverse theories of governance.
(ii) Identify current issues facing governance at the local, national, regional, post national and global level.
(iii) Apply the procedural knowledge required by policy makers in contemporary governance contexts.
(iv) Apply good governance principles to practical examples of policy making.
